Shield Support Services provide a sharps removal and disposal service for needle sticks and syringes from illegal drug users. Sharps waste is often encountered on waste ground in bins, toilets and public areas such as parks, closes and in properties used as shooting galleries.
These areas all present a very real health hazard. Blood borne pathogens such as HIV and Hepatitis are highly infectious and contact with them can have very serious and sometimes life threatening consequences. These are often carried by drug users and addicts who carelessly discard their needles as soon as they have injected.
Shield Support Services offer the following services:
- carrying out needle sweeps on land and properties known and suspected
- removing needles and sharps waste safely
- disinfecting and fumigating affected areas
- disposing of needles and sharps
Shield has fully trained staff to carry out these procedures and has done for a variety of organisations including Network Rail, local Council authorities, housing associations, land and property owners as well as many others.
